As some of you are aware of sites like “chowhound” and “e-gullet”, I wonder……who moderates these sites?
It is always nice to see a positive post about one’s restaurant, even a bad one every once in a while. However, the other day, I saw a post that didn’t belong. Yes, its about the restaurant where I work.
So, the poster says how she will never go into our restaurant because it is a former church and she is a catholic, its disrespectful, blah blah blah. Well, that got my feathers all up. So I decide to respond, in a nice way. I state that its too bad she wont come in because its a former church. The owner is catholic, originally it was a Lutheran church in 1857, and most recently, it was a Christian Science church.
And what happened……they removed my post but left her post up. I responded again even more careful and still they left her post and removed mine. Eventually, it was taken down.
So the question is, who is moderating these things? the entire idea of that paticular site is food, not the aesthetic of the restaurant’s history. At that point, the topic had moved far from food into religious beliefs.
Another thread had an entire email from a “famous” restaurant posted on the site about they new summer menu, how its all one menu, can come, etc… Talk about self promotion. I make it a rule to never promote my own restaurant when I post.
I am usually frowned upon for reading so many of these foodie blogs, but I do consider it a resource of information. You never know what you may pick up or learn.
